Obituary
October 30, 2007, The Commercial Appeal, Memphis, TN - JAMES WILL SURPRISE, well-known Memphis attorney and magician, died at home October 28, 2007 after a short illness. He was 61 years old. He is survived by his wife, Harriet; his brother, Johnny Surprise; his nieces, Janet Warner, Cecily Caldwell and Jennifer Surprise; and his nephews, Robert Thomas and J. R. Surprise. Jim was a life member of the International Brotherhood of Magicians and served as president of the local chapter, Ring 16, several times. He will be remembered for his willingness to share his knowledge with new members. He was also active for over 15 years in the Bluff City Canoe Club and kayaked some of the heaviest white water in the United States. He later developed an interest in scuba diving and achieved instructor certification. He will be remembered for his engaging smile, his "Magical" talents, his love of family and friends and his life-long devotion to his wife of 38 years and his dogs.
